◊ HOW TO PACK UP AND SUPERVISE RELOCATION
« back

Apart from using sheets of newspaper to wrap objects, consider spending a little more and purchase bubble-wrap, packing boxes, and insulating tape. Remember that towels, clothes, sheets and bedspreads can be used to protect the more delicate items. Once you have all the material necessary, take the time to plan.

Start packing room by room, and mark each box with a specific description of its contents.
Pack heavier items -such as books- in small boxes so that they can be moved easily and can withstand the weight.
Dishes should never be stacked when packing. Place them on their side and wrap them in bubble-wrap. Stuff kitchen towels or oven gloves into the corners of the boxes.
Do not stick insulating tape directly onto pieces of furniture and the glue can ruin their finish and strip off the varnish. Use pieces of rope to wrap them up in foam rubber.
Clothes that are not particularly delicate or expensive can be packed into rubbish bags and knotted at the top. We recommend you buy boxes especially designing for moving clothes when packing suits, dresses and expensive items.
When packing up a computer, do not forget to make back-up copies containing the information and take care not to store these near objects that create a magnetic field.
Do not pack or transport fuel or inflammable objects. This also includes oil-based paint, bleach, matches, etc. No type of aerosol, such as hair products, deodorants, shaving cream and clearing products, should be taken on the move.
Clearly mark those boxes containing fragile products so that they can be handled with care.
Prepare a box for the most important items, i.e.; certain kitchen utensils, items of personal hygiene and some changes of clothes, as these will come in very handy will you are moving in.
Prepare a first-aid kit for the journey and have it at hand.
Remember you can get boxes free-of-charge at your local supermarket and at any other establishment that carries out inventories.
Lastly, remember to leave your old home as clean as you would like to find your new one. Clean up as you pack, and take a coupe of hours to do a last check.

During the move
There is no reason why your property should get damaged when moving home. Broken plates or clothes that are never seen again should not be a necessary part of a move
Check that your inventory coincides with that of the removal company and ask for a copy of the list.
Make sure the removers take the items inside carefully.
Make sure you arrive at your home before the removal company.
Count the boxes as they are unloaded and check the furniture is in good condition.

Bearing in mind the abovementioned, you will undoubtedly have a trouble-free move.
